Birrai Ke Tori

Anyone on a budget, be you a local or foreigner, will appreciate a good ‘zgare’ (barbecue/grill house). Many locals will tell you that such a place cannot be found in the Bllok, but let me tell you they are wrong!

Birrari ke Tori (translating to “Tori has beer”) is well known though, for some reason unbeknown to me, often overlooked. The food is excellent value and incredibly tasty, served in a more authentic Albanian setting. The eatery is a family run business I’ve personally been frequenting regularly for the past four years.

The menu includes everything you might expect from a local place – qofte, suxhuk and plenty of grilled meat. The real highlight here though are their absolutely delicious chicken wings. For just 350 lek you receive a large bowl of these amazing ‘krahe pule’ served in a honey mustard sauce. I declare them the best chicken wings in Tirana!

If you disagree, please be sure to comment below and tell me because I’d sure love to try your suggestions!

Drinking here is cheap, cheap, cheap! Local beer is on tap for less than €1. You can get a litre of local wine for less than €5. Feel like trying a local raki or brandy (konjak)? A nice big glass will set you back less than €0,50. Are you thinking what we’re thinking? Yep, best to just get one of everything, hey!?

The staff don’t speak English, but they do offer a written menu with some pictures. It’s often very busy here so at peak times you may need to wait for a table, though as they have recently obtained a little more space to combat this. Overall, this is definitely one of the best value eateries in Tirana and I highly recommend you give it a try!
